Race Recap

1Today's 10K race was my fastest time of the summer. I planned on running under 37 minutes. I was 22 seconds shy of breaking the 37 minute mark. The day started off very cool with no sunshine at all. I did not have a seeded number this year so that means long lines at the port-o-johns, and worst of all no time to warm up. My total warm up time consisted of a two minute jog from the car. As it approached 9:00 AM, we all decided to take one last restroom break. 20 minutes later we were through the restroom line and on our way to the front of the "non seeded" pack. I snuck my way under the yellow caution tape that separated the seeded from non seeded runners, and moved up as far as I could. As the gun went off, I knew that my legs were going to take some time to get used to such a fast pace. My legs felt a little weary on the first mile since they weren't warmed up, but I was still able to pull off a 5:47 mile. My second mile was even better at 5:30. I kept the miles around 6 minutes until mile 5. Going up the Boulevard of the Allies really took a lot out of me. I ran a 6:59 mile on mile 5. Almost a whole minute slower then my targeted pace. On mile 6, I ran hard to get my miles back under 6 minutes. I finished the race in 96th place overall with a time of 37:22. A big improvement from my Great Race time two years ago which was 50:01. My legs were a little sore, but I still decided to join Lisa, Alan, and Mike on a easy jog back to the car at the starting line. We logged close to fifteen miles for the day. Overall a "Great Great Race". PS, IRONMAN IN 3 WEEKS!!!
