My Life - The Triathlon Way

What a weekend

Coaches orders were to take it easy and get some extra rest this weekend, and that's exactly what I did. Friday after work Jen and I handed out Halloween candy to the local kiddies, and then went for a late night run. Saturday morning came and went, I put on the race wheels, and headed outside for an hour ride. Finally my legs were starting to feel fresh, but I knew I shouldn't push it just yet. Let's save the energy for Clearwater right?

The rest of the day was spent getting prepared for the big Triathlon Party at our place. Guests arrived around 5:30 and I believe everyone had a good time. We sure did!!! There were so many great conversations going on during the night that Jen and I didn't want the evening to end. It's also hard to get used to seeing folks outside of their bike helmets and moisture wicking shirts.

Sunday morning came all too fast and I knew that I had eaten one too many cupcakes (thanks Beth) so felt the need to go a little hard on the bike. Plus being two weeks into my taper my legs are really starting to feel fresh! I met up with my friends Paul, Jeff and Drew at 9AM and not even 15 minutes into the ride Paul and I were sparring back and forth on the flats and at points maxing out at 30+ mph! Looking back at my HR file, during that stretch of 5 miles, we averaged 24.2 mph....and during another 2 mile stretch we averaged 29.9 mph.

After the hour ride I threw on my running shoes for a 20 minute run in zone 2. I ran down to the Irwin park which is a 1/2 mile figure eight flat track and set in nice into a easy pace. I didn't feel like I was running that hard since I was still in zone 2, but I was clicking off 6:30 miles with ease.

The rest of the day was spent eating leftovers from the Tri Party and we also spent the day cleaning out the garage. When Jen and I moved into our house a year and a half ago we planned on having a yard sale. Well since a year and a half passed and that never happened, we decided it was time to pack up the stuff and haul it off to GoodWill. I was shocked to see that they took everything. I guess what they say is true. One mans junk is another mans treasure.

So it's Monday morning and only 5 days to go till Clearwater....3 days till we leave! Today is an off day, and my last day of work this week. I'm really looking forward to a vacation and the race. It should be a good one!
