Coming Home

Currently I'm sitting in Houston at the airport. My flight leaves Houston today at 3:39 (4:39 EST) and all appears to be on-time etc. As for yesterday I had a decent day of training. Living out of a suitcase often makes it hard to train. For example I always seem to forget something. I remembered my Garmin watch, but left the HR strap at home. Sort of hard to train using heart rate without that... I kept telling myself I'd get up early this week to workout before work, but that never seemed to happen. Instead I did a back to back workout after we got back to the Hotel. I drove a couple miles to Memorial Park for my run. http://www.memorialparkconservancy.org/index.cfm/MenuItemID/157.htm

This place really reminded me of the soft dirt trails in Austin, and it was hard to believe that this park was tucked in between forests of concrete. I ran on a 2.8 mile loop trail, and ran in till I got in my 75 minutes. I ran a pretty consistent 7:30 pace, and really felt like I was running easy. Afterwards I met up with my co-worker Brett and we headed across the street to the LA fitness center. The guest pass cost us $15 bucks per person, but at least I was able to get in a little bit of swimming. My workout called for 3400 yards, but after talking to my coach over the weekend, he thought it was a good idea to back off just a bit since I wasn't used to the heavy mileage in the water. So I swam till I felt my form was really breaking down and ended up with 2000 yards and and around a 40 minute swim workout. Brett wasn't a swimmer but instead shot basketball for a little over an hour while I swam. I met up with him afterwards and we shot some hoops before it was time to leave. By now it was around 8:00 PM and we still hadn't eaten any dinner. We found this really great steakhouse nearby and as I sit here typing away I think I still feel full from the 10oz Fillet!

I need to get in 90 minutes on the bike tonight, but my plane doesn't even land till 9:30 in Pittsburgh. By the time I get home it'll be 10:30ish, and we'll then see if I have what it takes to climb on the trainer for 25-30 miles.

Jen wants to go swimming in the morning, tomorrow so come Friday afternoon I might be running on fumes.
